Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder has revealed that his superhero mash-up movie focuses on Ben Affleck’s Batman, at least initially.

The beginning of the film is weighted more heavily towards Affleck’s character, Snyder explained, so the audience can get to know his version of the iconic character.

Asked to confirm rumours that his film is skewed more towards Batman than Henry Cavill’s Superman, Snyder told The Daily Beast: “Only in that because it’s a different Batman than the Batman that was in the Chris Nolan movies, so we have a little bit more explaining to do – and you just had a whole Superman movie.

Cavill recently confirmed that the film isn’t conceived as a sequel to 2013’s Superman reboot Man Of Steel, but is “more of an introduction to Batman, an opening to Justice League, and an expansion of the world that was created in Man of Steel”.

“But I think only in that way,” he continued, “because you need to understand where Batman is with everything. And that’s more toward the beginning, but it evens back out as it goes on.”

The superhero mash-up movie also stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Holly Hunter as a US Senator, Laurence Fishburne as newspaper editor Perry White and Diane Lane as Superman’s adoptive mother Martha Kent. Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is set to open in cinemas worldwide on March 25, 2016.

Meanwhile, it has recently been announced that Affleck is to direct, co-write and star in a stand-alone Batman film, with production due to begin this November.
